Last night I had the opportunity to play Cosmic Encounter for the first time.

It’s a game of diplomatic back-stabbing, and galactic colonization.

Tsuro, the Game of the Path

A light game. A game of quiet strategy. A game of survival. These are ways to describe Tsuro, the Game of the Path. The rules are marvelously simple, and can be summed up as “move your piece around the board, and be the last pawn standing at the end.” The board, however, is not an unchanging world. It shifts with each player’s turn, and the numbers of players can vary from as few as two to as many as eight with each number in between altering the play in subtle yet definite and interesting ways.

Let us begin at the beginning, (more…)

Lament of Eastern Block

It would be a great day to say that I love all games, and that all games are equal in my eyes. That’s a wonderful sentiment, but it’s about as honest as a used car salesman. There are those games that I simply refuse to play. Case in point: RISK

Forged of sweat, blood, and stone left sitting out on the Salisbury plain, it doesn’t take much effort to figure out what people mean when they mention “Stonehenge”. Ancient monoliths and trilithons set about in an enormous construct of Druidic proportions that we still know very little about. So, of course, there has to be a boardgame based on it.

Stonehenge: An Anthology Boardgame” is, in fact, more than a simple boardgame. (more…)

It’s a complex world we live in, where every little thing in the events
that surround us can push us to greater levels of stress that leaves us
nearly no escape, except through our TV programs, Movies, and books. We

But, if we dig a little deeper, we will find that games are used to
simulate real-world events, model complex corporate actions or military
strategies, and also for (more…)

Do you speak L33T? Have you considered that there’s an entire generation that understands L33T about as well as their primary language? Do you think a neat game could be constructed around it? If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, you’re in for a treat. The classic board game Scrabble® has been (more…)

Like most of my (de)generation, Dungeons and Dragons was my first
role-playing game. The initial experience was sort of like one’s first
girlfriend. There was a lot of fumbling around, no one really knew what
they were doing, and while it was a lot of fun at the time, I eventually
moved on. Also like many a first girlfriend, (more…)

Treasure Fleet by Ship of Fools Games

The Guise Knights recently played this game. We had a lot of fun with it. It’s fairly simple to play once you figure out the rules, and yet there are some elements of basic strategy that provide some challenge.

Expect a complete review in the near future. Until then, I’ll  (more…)
